REVIEW, PHOTOS: Big Day Out 2012, Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne Post by: CK 30 January, 2012 - 7:34 AM

Starting a Big Day Out on a sizzling hot Melbourne day at the Boiler Room stage may not sound like a good idea on paper but the tent was going off and Bluejuice were rocking inside.

Bluejuice didn't let the heat sap their energy and the big crowd was lapping it up, not deterred at all by the massive screen behind them showing a video of the lead singer pashing a granny during a pumping "Act Yr Age".

The Living End were a massive highlight, their gig started with fans chanting 'Living End' before they even got on stage.

The crowd were pumping their fists for most of the set, and looking around during "White Noise", everyone was singing along.

The boys brought out a cake and threw it into the crowd to celebrate the Big Day Out's 20th year before ripping into a cover of Nirvana's "Breed".

Regurgitator didn't draw a big crowd, competing at the same time in the schedule as Kasabian and a Tony Hawk skateboard display.

They put on a great show though, the guys shirtless and with big hair looking like crosses between Iggy Pop and Cousin It. Interesting setlist too, at one point their song "I Will Lick Your Asshole' lead straight onto 'Sucked A Lot Of Cock To Get Where I Am"!

Soundgarden were on fire for their third Big Day Out appearance, and Chris Cornell was in amazing voice.

His vocals on "Black Hole Sun" sent shivers down my spine and with the sun setting behind us it was a special moment.

"Blow Up The Outside World" was a highlight for me as was "Rusty Cage" with a hat tip to Johnny Cash at the start.

The guy standing behind me said he last saw Soundgarden 19 years ago at the Big Day Out, the guy standing in front of me was barely 19, and both were loving it.

I finished off my Big Day Out with Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds as Kayne West strutted his stuff on the main Blue Stage.

Kasabian were watching Noel from side of stage and the crowd were yelling for their favourite Oasis songs. When someone asked for "Whatever" Noel said, 'I hope that's not a review of the gig'.

That's where I left for home with people loving every second of Noel’s performance. Waving their hands in the air and singing along, one bloke even managed to find a cigarette lighter to wave around.

We want to know your highlight. What was it?
