Powderfinger gave their last ever TV performance, INXS played with a new singer and temperamental pop star Sia told Independent MP Bob Katter to stick her award "up his bum". These ARIA Awards were not without their headlines.
15-time ARIA award winners Powderfinger opened the show and rocked a packed Sydney Opera House forecourt with a thundering version of "Burn Your Name" before winning two prizes, for Most Popular Aussie Band, as well as Most Popular Album for Golden Rule.
"We're stoked," said Ian Haug upon receiving their second award. Then the rest of the band chipped in to thank everyone involved in their 21-year career, which of course is coming to end this year.
This year's ceremony was all outdoors with the pomp and ceremony of previous ARIAs replaced with a more informal, festival party atmosphere.
Most of the awards were given out earlier this week including Crowded House winning Best Adult Contemporary Album for their album Intriguer.
This left tonight to be about the top of the pops and special one-off performances including INXS performing "Just Keep Walking" with the Best Male Artist Dan Sultan on vocals.
Other big winners included Temper Trap who took out two awards including Best Group.
They weren’t personally on hand at the ceremony to accept the awards but thanked fans via a prerecorded message from a mate's place while they were babysitting surrounded by kids toys.
However, not to end on a sour note but we need to pull the organisers up on their tribute, or lack thereof, to Models singer James Freud who passed away suddenly last week. Hardly anything was said, which was a real shame.
Meanwhile, our mates over at Radar Radio were down at the ARIAs to offer a different angle on the ARIA Awards:
2010 ARIA Winners
Album of the Year: Angus & Julia Stone, Down The Way
Single of the Year: Angus & Julia Stone, "Big Jet Plane"

That was the crappest ARIA awards ever. It should have just been the Dan Sultan-Megan Washington show. WIth Powderfinger with decent sound. Terrible. And Angus and Julia Stone? PAINFUL.

It was absolutely f#@*ing terrible! I should have just stopped watching after Powderfinger's performance... then again seeing Phil Jamieson off his face whilst presenting was amusing as well.

I'm SOOOOO glad to hear that i wasn't the only one who found the Angus and Julia Stone PAINFUL!! Who the F&^* votes for this s**t? Single of the year AND album of the year??? A couple of hippies who look to have a strange sort of relationship for brother and sister.
Powderfinger were the only decent thing of the whole show - and YES Phil Jamieson was so OBVIOUSLY wasted, it was pathetic and funny.
I would have thought Channel 10 might have had a slightly higher budget than to have the main finale be Guy Sebastian.

Their record label were suppose to release Twice If You're Lucky to radio as the third single, so what happened?
Here is the video clip. One of my fave songs off Intriguer
