Roger Waters The Wall Concert Is The Best Arena Production I've Ever Seen, Says Promoter Post by: Dave-O 29 June, 2011 - 12:20 PM

Fans of Pink Floyd are doing star jumps with the news that Roger Waters is coming to town to perform The Wall Live. A concert that until recently was performed on a handful of occasions back in the 80's.

The man who is bringing The Wall Live to town is Michael Coppel. Triple M's Lee Simon caught up with the legendary promoter to get the lowdown on the epic tour and started by asking if the concert is indeed bigger than when it first happened 30 years ago.

"It is and it benefits from the technologies of the last 30 years. The projection they use on the wall is stunning," Michael said.

As you can see in this YouTube video a fan shot of The Wall Live concert at London's O2 Arena earlier this year (with special guest Dave Gilmour on guitar) the show still has all the special effects Pink Floyd are known for.

"They have all the bells and whistles, all the theatrics," he said. "The flying pig, the plane that flies across the arena, a lot of pryo and the band is absolutely stunning. It's virtually like a U2 stadium show but done inside."

The band Roger Waters has is apparently amazing and is made up of the characters that played on the Dark Side Of The Moon tour.

"They do the album in it's complete form from start to finish. It's a striking piece of music and it lends itself to the theatrics they've attached to it."

Lee made the observation that it was no small irony that Roger wrote The Wall because he was over arena tours and wanted to build a wall between him and the audience. Since then this tour has become the most eagerly awaited one.

Michael laughed. "I've heard the [legendary] story of Floyd saying 'we're not going to go on stage unless you build a wall between us and the bloody audience' and they did. They got back on stage to perform it!".

"But if you dig deep into The Wall it's beyond a piece of spectacle; it carries a strong philosophical message. He's making statements about society and life in general, about the wall that divide all of us from each other and how you can tear those down if you take the right approach to it.

"To me it's the best arena production I've ever seen anyone do. Period. And that's 35 years of seeing bands put shows into arenas."

Pink Floyd's The Wall Live Concert kicks off in Perth in 2012. Pre-sale tickets go on sale from July 4 and the general public from July 11.
