Smashing Pumpkins Update Post by: Music 25 March, 2009 - 7:35 AM
No one’s saying he had a gun pointed to his head, but it sure sounded like Jimmy Chamberlin, Smashing Pumpkins’s now ex-drummer [again], had a gun pointed to his head when he posted a blog overnight sort-of explaining his sudden departure from the band.
In his “it’s-not-you-it’s-me” explanation of why he left the band, Chamberlin absolved band leader Billy Corgan [the one who’d be holding the gun if there was a gun] of any blame.
Chamberlin wrote: “By now you have heard the news of my departure from the Smashing Pumpkins. I will say, without going into any unnecessary details, that this represents a positive move forward for me.
“I can no longer commit all of my energy into something that I don’t fully possess. I won’t pretend I’m into something I’m not. I won’t do it to myself, you the fan, or my former partner. I can’t just, ‘Cash the check’ so to speak.
“I’m sorry but it really IS that simple. There is no drama, bad blood, or anything else but a full commitment to music. My best goes out to Billy and I’m glad he has chosen to continue under the name.”
Gee, they just sound like besties, don’t they?
As we mentioned yesterday, this is all a big change from Chamberlin’s comments only last year when he said: “We will write and record music [together] until we are dead!!!!!! We are not going away!!!!!!!!!”
Chamberlin ended last night's blog entry by saying he will continue making music with his other band, the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. Oh goody – can’t wait for that.
Do you believe him? Are you a fan of the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex? Are they better than the Pumpkins?

Billy Corgan is a loser. Simple as that.
Smashing Pumpkins would have to be one of the most overrated bands in music history.

I think you're right stav. Billy may have some talent but the Pumpkins' music is too monotonous, cryptic and frankly nothing special. Their day is done.
