Them Crooked Vultures World Tour Post by: Eddie Ruckus - Rockin' Blogger 6 October, 2009 - 8:21 AM
Them Crooked Vultures opened up their world tour in Texas over the weekend, a world tour that will see them in Australian in January.
The supergroup – with a sweaty, hard-working Dave Grohl on the skins – stuck to the same formula as their recent warm-up shows, pounding out a set featuring only songs from their soon-to-be-released debut album.
The show to a sold-out crowd in Austin, Texas received generally rave reviews, although a critic form Spin magazine suggested that perhaps singer Josh Homme is a bit out of his depth fronting a band with Grohl and Led Zep John Paul Jones.
“Good as Homme can be, at times it seemed like he lucked into this gig,” wrote the Spin reviewer.
“While he acknowledged that the majority of the audience came out to see his more-famous rhythm section, he too rarely left the microphone to allow the music a little room to breathe.
“Which is unfortunate, because when he did, the results were astounding, as during the crowd-pleasing instrumental jam that closed out the night.”
Hmmm, interesting thought. Here’s what they played:
"Elephants"
"Mind Eraser (No Chaser)"
"Dead End Friends"
"Scumbag Blues"
"Gunman"
"Caligulove"
"Bandoliers"
"Daffodils"
"Interlude w/ Ludes"
"Reptiles"
"New Fang"
"Nobody Loves Me, and Neither Do I"
"Warsaw"
Is Josh Homme the right frontman for Them Crooked Vultures? Who would have been a better choice?

Josh is the best possible frontman for this setup, He is a prolific songwriter and guitarist (as is shown in Kyuss, qotsa, the Desert Sessions...) and has just as much of an awesome stage presence as Dave or JPJ.

Homme is one of the greatest musicians of this decade, too bad Queens Of The Stone Age isn't mainstream enough for radio.
