Triple M's 30 Years Of Rock: Rockers Remember Post by: Dave-O 5 August, 2010 - 10:06 PM

Triple M

Triple M has been rocking since 1980 - first with Eon FM, then 2MMM Sydney and FM 104 Brisbane. To celebrate we've hand-picked the best rock anthems from the past three decades and built it into the 30 Years Of Rock album.

The triple-CD pack features 60 killer songs that made Triple M famous, including Cold Chisel, Powderfinger, Foo Fighters, Nirvana and more.

If you live in Sydney, buy your Triple M 30 Years Of Rock CD this weekend and get a limited edition Triple M Dr Dan t-shirt.

Be one of the first 200 people to bring your CD receipt to:
Triple M Reception, World Square, Sydney
or meet up with the Triple M Rock Patrol at Parramatta Town Hall, Sydney 8am Monday morning to get your limited edition Triple M Dr Dan T-shirt.

The 30 Years Of Rock album is out today. So make sure you get one!

To buy it go to: JB Hi-Fi, Big W, Sanity, Leading Edge, Kmart, Target or Australia Post.

Meanwhile the biggest names in Aussie music, including Mark Gable from The Choirboys, Ross Wilson, Doc Neeson and Tim and Jon Farriss shared some of their favourite memories of the station.

"Our first association was when we did a gig for Triple M at a gaol near Parramatta," recalls Tim Farriss. "We were worried about guys trying to sneak out the band equipment truck as we were leaving. That was our first gig for Triple M!"

Doc Neeson remembers when the MMMs gave him a gig as jock on the graveyard shift. "The CD player was overheating... and somebody told me that in an emergency go up to the record library and get a piece of vinyl and stick that on while the CD player cools down.

"On this one night it just kept seizing up so much that I zoomed out, grabbed "Rocky Mountain Way" [Joe Walsh] and that gave me 8 minutes for the CD player to recover!"

The Choirboys' Mark Gable remembers hearing Triple M for the first time. "I was driving to rehearsal and Triple M was on-air for the first time. They said 'FM is like a CD! It's in stereo! It's better than AM'.

"I remember putting it on in my mini minor and thinking 'wow, I can actually hear a guitar on the right hand side and a guitar on the left hand side, just like listening to the stereo'. Triple M rocked."

I went and bought the album on Saturday. There are 3 problems though.

    1. I have to fight my partner for it.

    2. I'm not sure what to play first as they are all great songs.

    3. I can't get my free T shirt as I'm on the sunshine coast & I'm a long distance trucky. Bummer.
