U2 Debut New Songs At Comeback Show Post by: Dave-O 9 August, 2010 - 9:36 AM
U2 gave their fans a show to remember in Turin, Italy on the weekend with a rip-roaring return to the world stage that included three new songs - an acoustic ballad called "North Star", the rocking "Glastonbury" and an instrumental jam titled "Return of the Stingray Guitar".
This was the band's first show of their European tour and marked the full-scale resumption of their massive 360 world tour, which was temporally derailed following Bono's back injury.
Seeing Bono strutting around the stage throwing punches like a prize-fighter was a magical experience for the 30,000 capacity and showed Bono fully fit and back at the top of his game being the frontman of the biggest band in the world.
"This band is like a family," he said. "It's a family business, U2. I am the prodigal son. I would like to thank my brothers for their patience."
Watching clips from the concert you couldn't tell Bono had only a couple of months ago been in a world of pain with his back requiring major surgery.
U2's manager Paul McGuiness told Reuters that Bono had worked around-the-clock to get back to full fitness.
"That's a process that goes on all the time," he told Reuters. "The doctors are very confident. They certified him fit to perform. It's really a very short time for a spinal injury."
McGuinness with all the confidence you would expect from one of the best managers in the world predicted great things from this tour.
"This tour by the end of this year will be the biggest grossing music tour by anyone of all time," he said. "And we will still have another 30 shows next year, 20-30 shows next year."
