U2 Shock Aussie Fans Post by: Dave-O 24 August, 2010 - 8:43 AM

We're not sure if this is some elaborate prank but the support act for U2 has been announced and we simply can't believe it.

Out of everyone U2 could have chosen to play with, the Irish supergroup has decided to go with rap superstar and hip-hop mogul Jay-Z as the support for their massive Aussie tour.

Yes, U2 are known for doing some peculiar and spectacular things, but we're pretty sure the last time we checked U2 was still a rock n' roll band.

However, maybe it's not that unbelievable. The last time U2 came through town they had Kanye West, another rapper as their support act.

And, of course, U2 and Jay-Z played together on stage last year at the original site of the infamous Berlin Wall for the MTV Europe Awards, where he added rap to U2's classic "Sunday Bloody Sunday".

U2 arrive in Australia in December and will kick-off their 360 tour on December 1 in Melbourne.

I am not surprised at all, especially after Kanye supported them last time. That and U2 are the kings of knobness. Ah, just another reason to not like U2.

Don't understand why they can't use an Aussie band as their support!

Kanye West annoyed the crap out of me last time they toured, doubt this act will be any better

I think it'll be pretty cool personally. At the end of the day, you go to a U2 show to see U2.

Having one of the biggest rappers ever open is a bonus - and I'd never go to see Jay Z for another reason, so suits me fine.

You can see any good Aussie band at the Metro or a Festival several times a year.

This on the other hand is a once-off

You have got to be kidding... I would love to see U2 - what a band. But why bother with that sort of support act. It's only half the value for the ticket... what's the point! There are way better Aussie acts out there - get them.

Max - the value of the Ticket is U2. If you don't want to see the support, just show up in time for U2.

It would be nice to see a good support, but I (if I get tickets) will be paying to see U2.

They have been my favourite band since I was 15. I would like to take my youngest son who is nearly 16 and my hubby who has had to endure my U2 obsession over the years.
