Who is the greatest drummer of all time? British music bible New Musical Express is currently holding an online poll and the results so far suggest the current generation of skin-hitters aren’t much whack.
A surprise leader so far, moving up from third to the top spot overnight, is the recently-departed Smashing Pumpkins’ beat-man, Jimmy Chamberlin.
The greatest ever? Cough-cough!! We reckon Jimmy boy probably just stayed up all night hitting his return button, in the hope of improving his chances of getting a new whack-job.
Ranking second and third in the poll so far are a couple of predictable candidates in Led Zep’s John Bonham and The Who’s Keith Moon [at least we know they’re not cheating], while in fourth place is one Dave Grohl. Gee, we’d almost forgotten that talented little fella can also play drums!
Our favourite? Holding down seventh place for the time being – one spot ahead of the one-armed Rick Allen of Def Leppard – is the legendary Animal, originally from The Muppets’ house band. Wonder who he’s playing with these days?
Okay, your call – who is the greatest drummer of all time? Surely there must be some Aussies in the mix!!
