A man has been charged with carjacking after he allegedly grabbed a taxi driver out of his car and drove off in the taxi.

The 26-year-old was being driven by a 30-year-old taxi driver from central Sydney to Lindfield on the city's upper north shore on Sunday last week.

When they arrived in Lindfield, police say the man forced the taxi driver out and drove the car 34km to Mooney Mooney on the NSW Central Coast where the vehicle broke down.
