In the famous 2004 Chinese jockey strike, the Beijing racing club boldly tried something new and controversial. They replaced the jockeys with bears. It never really took off, mainly because they couldn't get the bears to wear colourful silks. A later idea to use penguins was also unsuccessful. (Getty Images)
