When Push Comes To Shove Posted by Jason Dunstall 12 June, 2009 - 4:18 PM

In the baaaackkkk!!!

Billy from Melbourne asks the Chief:

You may have answered this question on air but can you please explain to me why is it ok to put your foot or knee on someone's back to take a mark but you can't place your hands on their back? To me, it doesn't make sense.

Billy,

The use of a foot or knee or any other part of the body for that matter (except the hands) is permitted because it is deemed to be part of the act of jumping or contesting the mark in the air. Using the hands is considered a separate and secondary act and has recently been outlawed. Please note I am not a fan of this rule. A push should be penalised as a push regardless of the part of the body that is used.

Cheers Chief.

Arch Doubs from Brunswick asks:

Hi JD,

I have a boxers nose similar to the one you once had. I would like to correct it sometime soon. Can you tell me which surgeon did yours 'cos it looks great as I would be stoked to get a similar result.

Regards, Arch.

Arch,

Dr Jack Kennedy repaired my sorry excuse for a nose after repeated breaks and heavy knocks. He is one of the leading 'nose' surgeons. We won't hold it against him that he is a passionate Collingwood man!!

Good luck. Cheers Chief.

Georgia from St.Kilda asks:

Hi,

My dad showed me about the video that you and Danny Frawley did at Waverly Gymnastics. I just wanted to say it was hilarious and it should be done again. It was a good laugh :)

Are you doing any more of these? Georgia,

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. And yes, despite how embarrassing these little episodes are for Spud and I we basically do one every fortnight for our Friday night Foxsports show: Before the Bounce. We have already done cricket, soccer, rugby league and gymnastics. This week it's diving.

Cheers Chief.

G'day Chief, I would love to see the stat men and commentators delete any reference to the frees for and against statistic except maybe for coaching purposes at club level. The criticism I have as a result of one match last weekend in particular has to do with the imbalance brought about where at one end of the ground you have an umpire paying technical free kicks more in fitting with a game of tiddly winks whilst at the other end the umpire is running around with the arms flapping like a feldgling albatross trying to catch the breeze. The eventual result may have ultimtately been the same but lets get back to enjoying games decided on the merits of the teams playing rather than being frustrated by the manner and standard of umpiring
