Peter Burgoyne and Brendon Lade, two of the longest-serving Port Adelaide players, have announced their retirement from the club.

The duo,  who both played in Port's first AFL game against Collingwood in 1997, announced their retirements in emotional scenes at Alberton.

They both will play against North Melbourne at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night, and continue playing in the unlikely event Port make the finals, with the club relying on beating North Melbourne by around 100 points and Hawthorn defeating Essendon.

Lade joked that the only thing he hadn't achieved was a Brownlow, with both players having won premiership medallions in 2004.

Lade was a Rising Star nominee (Round 7, 1997) and won the Power's Best and Fairest award in 2006, Best Finals Player in 2003, Best Team Man in 2006 and Fos Williams Award in 2006.

Burgoyne finished third in the Power Best and Fairest count in 2003 and 2007, won the club's Best Finals Player in 2007, was an International Rules Series representative in 1999, and played for the 'Dream Team' against Victoria in 2008.

He was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century in 2005, and played State of Origin for South Australia in 1999.

Who do you think will replace these key players in Port's line-up?

Brendon, forget about the Power or any coaching roles after this season. Keep your boots on and head down south to the Panthers to dig them out of a hole for us. Cheers
PS - Peter, feel free to join him.

You have both done a great job and have both played a major part in the team, they are a great team (even tho they aint doing so well at the moment and havent been so great this year, fingers crossed they do better next year) so I hope you both have enjoyed your time with club and continue on to play a big part in the community and teach our little fellas to be as good if not better footy players than you lol xx Power has never been the same without Wanganeen, Gavin was an awesome player just like you both are, so to all of you best of luck and I hope things continue to go well for you all xx

    Cheers from Potter family xx

Brendon you gave so much, came back from TWO broken legs, and still there where many a time you led the opposition a merry dance.
Then there is Peter what a star for the majority of his career, whether it be for Port Magpies or the Power, just look at the two of these champions and say thanks for all you gave us, the supporters. thanks Jack
