Sheeds To Coach Of West Sydney
Triple M Footy 9 November, 2009 - 9:47 AM
In a story reminiscent of Ron Barassi being put in charge of the Sydney Swans in the mid 80's, the AFL have announced that former Essendon master coach, Kevin Sheedy, will be in charge of the new Sydney West club.
It is believed that Sheeds will move his whole family to Blacktown to take charge of the AFL's newest team.
Many Victorians might believe that Kevin has become a traitor. After not taking the main job at Richmond after 27 years as Essendon's coach, it is almost unbelievable to think that the great man will be helping an interstate club.
League great reckons that it will take more than Sheedy to get AFL going in Sydney's West.
Do you think Sheedy is past coaching?

Not happy Jan or in this case, Kev. As an old Bombers supporter we were happy to cheer him off into the sunset. He should stay retired.

I do not understand why the Demitriou and his AFL cohorts are so pig headed in insisting on a new AFL team in West Sydney. Sydneysiders won't care and will not support in the required numbers.
Give to Tasmania - they have the enthusiasm and football heart to make it work.

we dont need another new team just send 1 up from victoria. there are too many vic clubs, make them move or deregister, send 2 to tassie -

I agree with with Greg.......start another team in Tassie. The AFL will complain that they can't afford to support the team in 5 years time when it starts costing too much money account the lack of AFL supporters in Sydney. They complain now about WA and SA not holding their own!!!!!

As for Kevin Sheedy being the coach???? Bugga......Port Adelaide could have used him more than the coach we have!!!!!! Always enjoyed his and Leigh Mathews' coaching style!!!!!!
Good Luck Kevin and enjoy the time you are ther -

Christine, WA and SA have three of the AFL's most wealthiest clubs: Adelaide, West Coast and Fremantle, their off-field resources are insane, so I'm not sure where you getyour info from. I think the 2nd Sydney team will work. Give it time, andd watch them carve a niche in the sporting landscape there.

the afl needs to get it right, another team in sydney is a joke, how about another team from either tassie or the northern territory and then we can have a true national competition.
