Former Sydney forward Ben McGlynn will St Kilda as an assistant coach, it has been announced.

McGlynn retired after Sydney’s loss to the Bulldogs in the Grand Final three weeks ago, bowing out after 11 seasons, 171 matches and 195 goals for Hawthorn and Sydney.

The 31-year-old has been working closely with Sydney’s NEAFL team, and is looking forward to beginning his new role at the Saints.

“After playing footy in Sydney for the past seven years, I’m really excited at the challenge of stepping into a new environment, a new club and meeting new people,” McGlynn said in a statement.

“I’ve had some exposure to coaching, so I feel like the development role is a great fit for me and I’m looking forward to working with the younger boys.”
