AFL Hand Down Lengthy Ban To Lachie Whitfield
The AFL announce penalties.
The AFL has handed Giant midfielder Lachie Whitfield a six-month ban.
The penalty has been backdated so Whitfield will be able to return to footy before the halfway mark of the 2017 season.
New Collingwood football manager Graeme Allan and Brisbane welfare manager Craig Lambert have agreed to 12-month suspensions.
The League is yet to decide whether GWS will be penalised with a loss of draft picks.
The pair allegedly conspired to help Greater Western Sydney youngster Whitfield avoid a potential positive drug test by hiding him at Lambert’s home for three days in the middle of 2015.
At the time, Allan was the GWS football boss and Lambert was the GWS player welfare manager.
Whitfield will be free to play for the Giants midway through 2017.
