Wayne Carey Suggests One Hawthorn Star Could Be Traded For Jaeger O'Meara
Wayne Carey has suggested Luke Breust may part ways with Hawthorn to allow them to secure Gold Coast young gun Jaeger O'Meara.
O'Meara has nominated the Hawks as his preferred destination, but the club will need to find the currency to secure him.
And Carey suggested on the Saturday Rub Breust has been told he may make way.
"They're going to have to give a few things away, " said Carey, "and the players that have currency are the players that have played in premierships."
He's suggested a Hawthorn star has been put forward as trade bait.
"I'm hearing that Luke Breust has been told, which I found very surprising, he got told during the week that if a deal could be done that he may be one of the ones (up for trade)."
Damian Barrett was surprised at the timing.
"That's a big call," he said. "Told before a semi final that he's not wanted."
Breust has kicked 271 goals for Hawthorn over 140 games.
"I agree - (that's a) big thing to be told before you're about to play in a big final," Carey responded.
"But I'm led to believe that's exactly what happened."
