Iconic football commentator, Rex Hunt is moving on from Melbourne’s Triple M.

As well as a new opportunity broadcasting the game he loves to regional areas, Rex is also going to be working on a few exciting projects, including one revolving around his other great passion, fishing and the promotion of fishing amongst kids.

Southern Cross Austereo General Manager, Ben Amarfio said, “Although a latecomer to FM, (Rex bought his first FM radio the day he joined us!), Rex has been great for Triple M and is a legend of football calling.  We’re very sad that he’s decided to move on but we respect his wishes.  Someone of Rex’s stature deserves to leave on his terms.”

“We’ve really enjoyed having Rex as a part of our team and are proud to be able to say that after over 30 years as a broadcaster, Rex Hunt will finish his major football radio career calling this year’s Grand Final on Triple M,” he said.

Hunt said Triple M has been a great experience for him. “Triple M showed faith in me and gave me another opportunity.  I have great respect for the team on and off air.  I had a fantastic time at Southern Cross Austereo and loved being able to talk to a whole new audience over the past two years,” he said.

“JB, Garry and the boys are true professionals and I know they will continue to dominate the Football ratings for all people ‘with a pulse’. I’ll look back on my time at Triple M very fondly and I wish the team all the best but it’s time for me to move on,” Hunt said.

Hunt began his football broadcasting career in 1979 and was the chief football caller at 3AW from 1989 to 2009 before joining Triple M in 2010.

Hunt also played 202 games for Richmond, Geelong and St Kilda, including two premierships with the Tigers.

Leave your well wishes for Rex here!
