Andrew Welsh's Amazing Comeback Post by: James Brayshaw 3 July, 2009 - 12:47 PM

What a performance from Andrew Welsh on the weekend.
This is a man whose leg was that badly broken it was literally facing the wrong way. As I understand it doctors were fearful that he would never play any sport again, let alone AFL football.
16 weeks later he's not only back in the black and red, he's also had close to 30 touches while putting the sword to the best player in the competition, in my opinion, Chris Judd.
That is the stuff an MVP is made of.
He is the perfect run with player. He negates, but not in a way that becomes a slight on the game. He wins his own footy, and then he uses it exceptionally well.
One of the best taggers I have ever seen play football was Don Pyke from the West Coast Eagles. A very talented ball winner and user in his own right, but also amazingly effective one-on-one against the best mid-fielders in football.
If Andrew Welsh continues to play the way he did Friday night, he will start earning this comparison on a permanent basis because Don Pyke won a Best And Fairest in a premiership year for a West Coast side that is still talked about in revered terms today.
Well played Andrew and congratulations - I understand your rehab work and demeanour around the club has been first class.
You are the Triple MVP for Round 13!
Do you think Andrew Welsh is the best tagger running around?
