Glenn Maxwell Makes A Statement In The Sheffield Shield
Big runs for Maxi
Glenn Maxwell has put forward his audition for the Test number six role with a well-paced innings at the MCG against Queensland today.
Maxwell made 81 off 138 balls at a relatively sedate (for him) pace off 59 runs per 100 balls, including 10 fours.
His 132 run sixth-wicket partnership with Cameron White took the game away from Queensland.
Maxwell’s runs are well-timed as Mitch Marsh’s place in the Test team comes under increasing scrutiny after his failure in the midst of an Australian collapse yesterday.
Marsh made an eight-ball duck and was out playing around down the wrong line to a straight delivery as Australia lost 10/86 to lose grip of a game that they appeared to have complete control of.
South Africa are currently 2/144, a lead of 142.
