Sri Lanka’s remarkable one-wicket victory over Australia in the first one-dayer on Wednesday at the MCG got us thinking, what’s the best comeback victory in the history of sport?

Well we can’t decide, so we’ve assembled 10 nominations which could take out the title in the above gallery.

Sri Lanka came back from the brink at 8-107 to chase down the victory target of 240 in sensational fashion.

Angelo Mathews and tailender Lasith Malinga combined for the greatest-ever ninth-wicket partnership (132 runs) to make it back-to-back wins against Australia following on from Sri Lanka’s seven-wicket Twenty20 victory on Sunday.

The result ensured Australia’s preparations for the upcoming Ashes series went from bad to worse as it has now gone nine matches in a row without a victory.

The Aussies are on the verge of losing their first-ever ODI series to Sri Lanka on Australian soil with the tourists now only one win away from an historic triumph.
