Jenson Button has given McLaren an early 2012 boost by taking out the 2012 Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix, with Australia's great hope, Mark Webber, finishing fourth.

It was Button's third win in Melbourne following successes in 2009 and 20120.

Button finished ahead of reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), with Lewis Hamilton third in his McLaren. Fernando Alonso finished fifth.

Webber's compatriot, Dan Ricciardo, executed an amazing final lap to secure ninth and grab his first championship points.

Earlier, Button shocked Hamilton by taking a lead early in the race while Webber and Ricciardo both had poor starts.

Webber dropped from fifth on the grid to ninth quickly but would be satisfied after making his way into fourth position by the completion of the race.
