Richie Benaud Retirement Backflip Posted by Triple M Sport 19 February, 2009 - 9:39 AM

The lure of television has proved too much for Australian Cricket icon and Milo fanatic Richie Benaud.

At the start of 2009, Richie shocked us all when he announced he was retiring completely after being the face of cricket commentary since 1960.

"I love it and when you get a season like we've just had, well, that's absolutely terrific," the 78-year-old said.

Richie is still calling it quits from ball-by-ball commentary to instead focus on making special features.

Retired cricket legends Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne are going to take his place in the commentary box.

What will life be without Richie full-time? And what's your favourite Richie moment?

Did Richie retire - or was he pushed by the chappel brothers. Listen to me - they're evil. Their leader hides behind a moustache like a coward. Richie you need to come back now

Bye Richie. You brought a lot of class to the sport. There is no way any other commentator can come close

"Who do you think could fill Richie's massive shoes? Hopefully anybody but Mark Taylor!"

Haha totally agree, Mr Chubby know-it-all will never take Richies spot, Ian Healy or Tony Greig most likely.
