Luke Burt: Eels 'Never Give Up!' Post by: Chris E Leigh 24 August, 2010 - 11:25 AM
Eels captain Nathan Hindmarsh and player Luke Burt have spoken out after Parramatta's heart-breaking Sunday loss to the Tigers, punctuated by Burt's tragic miss on the siren that took the game into golden point.
The battle between the Eels and Tigers was hard-fought - Tigers clearing Parra by just 20-18 on their home ground. "Very upset, was very upset after the game," Nathan Hindmarsh told the Today show in the wake of the loss. "That's rugby league. We had the opportunity to try and level the scores for us, but we missed the goal."
Burt spoke about his horrific miss and the Eels premiership hopes on Triple M Sydney's The Grill Team this morning. "It was hard, on Sunday and Monday to get through it, but it's part and parcel of the job I do," he said.
"We're all feeling for Burty, straight away he knew that he'd missed it, but that's footy," Hindmarsh added. Considering Burt's position as one of the most accurate players in the league, it was a double disappointment for Eels diehards.
"I think the feeling in the sheds after the game was why'd it take us so long to play the style of football we played at the end there, and that's what the disappointing thing is," Hindy said.
"We were playing do-or-die football and to only play twenty minutes of the razzle-dazzle stuff that would have won us the game, you know, we're asking ourselves why," a clearly rueful Hindmarsh concluded.
Parramatta aren't out of the race yet, but they're hanging onto their premiership hopes by the skin of their teeth.
The big decider, the true do-or-die match is this Friday against South Sydney - the game that will determine the fate of both teams.
