After battling with neck and shoulder problems, it looks as though 32-year-old Steve Matai may be forced to bow out of his NRL career.
Despite surgery earlier in the year, the neck injury hasn't healed as well as hoped, according to Rugby League Week, and it's unlikely he'll be able to play again.
There are concerns for his long term health if he plays on, but it appears at this stage that if he retires, insurance should cover his contract pay-out for next season.
