Detectives Charge Former Bulldogs Prop Ryan Tandy Over NRL Match-Fixing Scandal Post by: The Learned One 26 May, 2011 - 11:38 AM

Detectives have charged disgraced former Bulldogs prop Ryan Tandy with attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception in the latest chapter of the NRL match-fixing scandal which first came to light on Triple M’s Grill Team back in September.

Tandy gave away a penalty in front of his posts minutes into the now infamous Round 24 clash against North Queensland last season.

It’s alleged that Tandy stood to win a substantial amount of money from Tabcorp by placing money on the Cowboys to score the first points of that match.

The 29-year-old has already been stood down from the Bulldogs after it was found that he lied to a NSW Crime Commission hearing about the issue.

When the story first broke on Triple M’s Grill Team last year, Mark ‘MG’ Geyer couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“The names that have been mentioned are not just fringe first-graders. These are higher paid players, which makes me wonder why?” MG said at the time.

“Why would you risk everything that you are in this game, everything that you know you are about, for money?”

When Tandy was arrested in February, Triple M NRL expert Dan Ginnane said it came as a shock.

“This has come from nowhere,” said Dan. “I've been speaking to a couple of journos who have been following this story and they didn't see it coming either.”

“And now the guy that gave away the penalty has been arrested.”

What do you think will happen to Tandy now?
