Tim Sheens No Longer The Coach Of Wests Tigers

Tags: Wests Tigers, NRL

UPDATE: Triple M's MG says he's sick of the drama surrounding Sheens as it's still undecided if he will take another job offer at the Tigers. "Pre season he publicly said that if we don't make the eight I'll walk away. He must walk away, be the bigger man."

Matty says he backs Sheens saying "The Tigers board signed him, he's got $900,000 owed to him. At the end of the day if they want to get rid of him, he can dig his heels in and say he's not going anywhere unless he gets the $900,000. They're (Tigers) in a very tight position, relying on the good will of Tim Sheens to walk away, and unless they give him that money, he won't. He'll just turn up to work and do nothing."

After 10 years in charge, Tim Sheens has been dumped as coach of the Wests Tigers.

The club made an official announcement today and have offered the decorated coach a senior position due to a restructure in the club. Tim Sheens is yet to decide on whether he will take up the Wests Tigers offer.

Wests Tigers Media Statement

“Tim has been the most influential figure in the club’s 13 year history,” said Wests Tigers chairman David Trodden.

“He came to a club that had not enjoyed success and was struggling to establish itself.

"Tim has established professional structures and built a foundation from which there is now a genuine expectation of sustained success.

"He was the Coach of our first ever Premiership winning team and for all of those reasons he will always have a special place in the history of our club.

“The last ten days have been particularly difficult for everyone and the one thing which has shone through has been the dignified and professional manner in which Tim has conducted himself.

“We are very keen for Tim to continue with our Club in a senior role as part of our restructure.

“We will now embark on the process of selecting the coach of the Wests Tigers NRL side in 2013.

“This is clearly a critically important task that we will manage carefully and professionally over the coming weeks.”

Since joining the Wests Tigers in 2003, Sheens has had a very up and down tenure with the club.

After leading the joint venture club to their first ever Grand Final win in 2005, Sheens has struggled, taking the Tigers to the finals only twice - in 2010 and 2011.

Wests Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys has denied reports that Tim Sheens has quit as coach, but admitted the matter could be settled at a board meeting today.

"I can certainly deny the newspaper claim that Tim's quit," Humphreys told AAP on Tuesday.

"At this point in time he's neither quit nor been sacked as has been reported in some circles.

"We're conducting a review and when we're through that review and there's outcomes to announce, we'll announce them."

Wests Tigers will hold a media conference at 4pm today at Concord Oval. Stay tuned for more details.

It is expected that they will be making an announcement on the future of coach Tim Sheens.

Dan Ginnane from Triple M's Rush Hour says it's a given coach Tim Sheens won't be at the club.

"Tim Sheens will no longer be the coach of the Wests Tigers," he said.

"The saga came to an end a short time ago when the Wests Tigers held an emergency board meeting. The only question to be answered now is was it a resignation or a sacking as we suspect it is and how much exactly is the payout."

After 10 years in charge, Tim Sheens has reportedly told players and officials that he is leaving Wests Tigers.

It's the latest drama to come from the club following the loss of club favourites Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington to the Sharks.

The pressure has been building to oust Sheens became apparent as leading players have made their opinions obvious.

Sheens and the Tigers are said to have come to an agreement over the payout terms. The Daily Telegraph has reported Sheens will receive a parting payment of $900,000, twice his annual salary.

Triple M's Matty Johns thinks that Nathan Brown could be the man to replace Sheens. Matty said "I think that he is ready for a return to the NRL."

MG agreed as Matty also mentioned another name, Kevin Walters. He said "He was an outstanding player, he's been under Wayne Bennett, he's been under Craig Bellamy, he's ready for a crack."
