Matthew Hayden Confirms His Retirement On Triple M
Matthew Hayden confirms he's hanging up his bat. Does this allow room for Big Bash organisers to snare cricket star Mitchell Johnson to the game?
Australian cricket legend Matthew Hayden has told Triple M he is hanging up his bat.
"It's always a struggle to let go of something that you love so much," Hayden told Triple M Brisbane.
"I've retired that many times. I think I've retired more times than I've been dropped now," Hayden joked on the breakfast show.
One of Australia's best opening batsman, Hayden came out of retirement last year to play Big Bash cricket for Brisbane Heat, something Matty described as being "a kid in a candy shop."
Hayden said it was "well worth coming out of retirement" but acknowledged he won't be missing the punishing fitness regime.
"It's not easy at 41 to get back on the bike, back in the pool, get in the weights room and then snatch a million cricket balls," Hayden laughed.
What's next for Hayden?
"To build a company in association with Southern Cross Austereo Media Group where we're going to go to work and launch a whole lot brands, media content specifically across the leisure, lifestyle and recreational category," Hayden added.
