Mystery Woman Who Led Indian Team Out During The Opening Ceremony Identified
The woman who gatecrashed the Opening Ceremony in London has been identified as Madhura Honey, a postgraduate student originally from Bangalore.
UPDATE: The woman who gatecrashed the Opening Ceremony in London has been identified as Madhura Honey, a postgraduate student originally from Bangalore.
Honey was a volunteer who walked into the arena with team India having earlier reportedly told her parents to look for her on TV.
After images of her went around the world, Honey took down images of her security passes she had posted on her personal Facebook page.
"There is no mysterious girl. The incident just exposes the tall claims made by the organisers regarding security," said an Indian Olympic spokesperson.
"Just imagine ... if this had happened in India that a person without any accreditation had walked into the main arena that too along with a contingent all hell would have broken out in this side of the planet."
Seb Coe, Chairman of the London Games, played down the security breach saying the woman was no danger to the Indian squad as she would have undergone all security checks.
However, Coe admitted she should not have been there and was probably 'over-excited'.
EARLIER: India's officials in London are furious a mystery woman in a red shirt was able to walk out with Indian athletes at the opening ceremony.
Indian media outlets are reporting the woman "brazenly" walked alongside the official flag bearer, Sushil Kumar, yet no-one knows who she was or why she was even there.
"She had no business being there. It was a clear case of intrusion," Acting Chef de Mission Brig P K M Raja is quoted in The Times Of India as saying.
"We are taking up the issue with the organisers. We don't know who she is and why she was allowed to walk in."
The Indian team wants an apology from event organisers.
