7 Things You Need To Mount In Paris
Do some stretches before you pull a muscle.
Ever get the urge to get on top of something? You’ve gotta head over to France to climb some really awesome stuff. You won’t find any trees on the list but you will find some things that you didn’t know you could mount.
The Eiffel Tower
Once you make it to the observation deck at the top of the stairs, you’ll see why the Eiffel Tower is one of the most visited places in Paris. There’s also a lift if you can’t be arsed with stairs. You can lie and say you took the stairs - we don’t care.
Arc de Triomphe
Right in the middle of a roundabout is the Arc de Triomphe – a structure that honours those who fought in the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. It’s also the site of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Get to the top and check out Paris from about 50m in the air.
Stade de France
Depending on how much cash you’ve got, you might have to ascend to the very top of Stade de France to watch a game of soccer (or football if you wanna get technical). It was the main stadium during the 1998 World Cup and where you can still catch a national game… or a gig.
Back in the day Paris’ cemeteries started to overflow. The solution was to build the Catacombs –underground cemeteries which now hold the remains of six million people. Since you’re going underground, you’re not climbing them… but you do climb OUT of them.
The highest point of the city is home to Sacré-Cœur, a Catholic church. Climb the hill (with a bottle of wine, cheese, a baguette and a beret) and enjoy a picnic overlooking Paris.
You’ve probably heard of this church... And you can get on the roof!
The Moulin Rouge Windmill
The Moulin Rouge is known for its cabaret shows under the red windmill. Security might have an issue with you trying to mount the windmill, but if you make it to the top, get a mate to shout you a beer.
