Council meeting raises ideas for Mall Invigoration

Stakeholders met with Greater Bendigo Council yesterday to voice their concerns about the high vacancy rate that the CBD Shopping District is currently experiencing.

Mayor Margaret O’Rourke says that feedback from shop owners in the mall will be vital for the Council’s plan to inject some life into the mall.

A number of ideas were put forth yesterday, including installing a pop-up park area to increase shade and colour in the mall.

Some of the short-term ideas include hosting more events, such as markets in the mall, repurposing current amenities, upgrading the playground and water play area for children, working with Myer to reinvigorate their store and improving the public transport waiting facilities in the mall.

Medium-term ideas include working with stakeholders to develop an investment prospectus to attract retailers to the mall, investigating connecting laneways around the city centre and mall and restoring heritage facades in the mall.
