On this day 42 years ago, British rock band Queen released an epic, 6 minute single, Bohemian Rhapsody.

The epic rock masterpiece was the most expensive singe ever made at its time of release (they spent so much money they actually lost count of how much it cost).

It stayed planted at the #1 spot in the UK charts for 9 weeks and hit the million sales mark just 2 months after it’s release, being a chart topper in Canada, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand and here in Australia.

The song was so big the song itself was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004!

It is claimed that the band invented the music video following the success of the video to accompany this killer track, it became the norm for bands to release a video with every new single.

The song re-entered the charts in 1992 after being featured in the film Wayne’s World, even releasing a new film clip to coincide with the film, awarding Queen with their only MTV Video Music Award.
