German cops have evacuated 90,000 rock fans from the Rock-am-Ring festival in Germany over a “concrete terrorist threat”.

Fans had flocked to the festival site in the western city of Nuerberg for the first of three days of the festival before being asked to clear out.

"Because of a terrorist threat situation, the police have asked the organisers of 'Rock am Ring' to interrupt the festival temporarily as a precautionary measure, also so that they can carry out investigations in the event space," the festival tweeted.

"All visitors are requested to leave the festival site in a controlled and quiet manner and make for the exits and camping sites."

The future of the second and third days of the festival is up in the air, with more information set to be announced at 11am tomorrow German time (7pm Australian Eastern Time) according to the Festival’s Facebook.

The festival was going to be headlined by German industrial-metal behemoths Rammstein and Armenian-American alternative metal group System of a Down.

Aussie rockabilly trio The Living End were set to perform at 11pm on the first night.

The evacuation comes just under two weeks after a suicide bombing in Manchester killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert.
