Australia’s first permanent Australian Music exhibition was officially launched to media and industry this morning at The Arts Centre, Melbourne.

The Australian Music Vault is open to the public Tuesday 19th December and located in the heart of Melbourne at the Arts Centre, 100 St Kilda Road, Melbourne and showcases the past, present and future of the Australian music industry.

The event opened by a Michael Gudinski, Molly Meldrum and Archie Roach is recognition of the Australian music history and future.

It will feature a rotating collection of over 30,000 pieces, with the instalments changing regularly.

Talking at the media launch, Gudinski spoke on working with Meldrum on the project;

“Molly and I believe it’s a vital thing for Melbourne for many, many years. It’s a dream come true. If it didn’t been in Melbourne, my life wouldn’t have been complete. It’s a dream come true”.

Getting on stage for an impromptu speech, as he does, Meldrum told of the importance of the Australian Music Vault for him;

“When I was a little boy I’d visit Melbourne city as a young music lover, seeing live music just across the road (from the Arts Centre). I never ever thought it’d (the music industry) would consume so much of my life. It’s an absolute dream come true. I said I would die a happy man if St Kilda won after grand final, but this is a perfect end for me”.

Also there, was Triple M’s own Jane Gazzo, who chairs the board of the Australian Music Vault.
