The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame have announced their 2019 nominees, and at the forefront are '80s Glam Rockers Def Leppard!

See official post below:

The 2019 nominees also include Devo, Janet Jackson, John Prine, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks, The Cure, Todd Rundgren, Rufus & Chaka Khan and The Zombies.

The Rock Hall has had it's fair dose of criticism from fans, musicians and industry personnel alike, predominantly due to the large number inductees and continuing nominees falling outside of the Rock genre and it's respective sub-genres. In the past this has included Pop artists such as ABBA and Madonna, and Rap artists Tupac Shakur and N.W.A to name a few. The Sex Pistol's Johnny Rotten famously called the institution a "piss stain"! KISS' Paul Stanley was also vocal about his opinion on the Rock Hall in the lead-up to KISS' induction in 2014, even taking a stab at the institution and the selection process in his induction speech;

"The people pay for tickets, the people buy albums, the people who nominate do not."

- Paul Stanley

For a long time, the inductees where determined by a panel of industry 'experts'. In recent years this has changed for the better, with a fan voting ballot now part of the official selection criteria! "The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2019 inductees." (rockhall.com).

Taken straight from the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame's website, "Def Leppard ignited the 1980s reign of metal. Their anthemic hooks, melodic but powerful guitars, larger-than-life drum sounds, and sexy swagger created the ultimate stadium experience." We couldn't have said it better ourselves...

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliot had this to say regarding the band's nomination; "I mean, it's not really gonna change my life, really, one way or the other - but Jon Bon Jovi has been telling me for at least 12 months that yes, it will... We'll wait and see, I'm not gonna hold my breath because I know how this can go. Judas Priest didn't get in last year, and it's a big disappointment for them that they didn't. So I'm not taking anything for granted." (Gary Graff, Billboard.com).

This is the group's first nomination since being eligible in 2005, and it seems that they're being well received as early leaders in the fan vote. We for one will be voting for the mighty Def Leppard ahead of their Aussie tour with the Scorpions Down Under!
