Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder took his legendary song Better Man to a whole new level on the weekend, by performing it at a massive South African festival with the Soweto Gospel Choir.

The Global Citizen Festival, held in Johannesburg on Sunday to honour Nelson Mandela on the 100th anniversary of his birth, brought together a mass of celebrities and performers to push the message of global citizenship, an end to poverty and equality for all.

Eddie Vedder aside, the show also featured Beyonce, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Chris Martin and the artist we all know as Oprah Winfrey.

Vedder played a brief set that also included Porch, Long Road and Imagine. The show was live-streamed and now available on Youtube...

Eddie's performance starts at 5 hours 57 minutes, with the aforementioned Better Man starting at 6 hours 8 minutes.

Eddie also paid tribute to the late Chris Cornell. Prior to playing the Pearl Jam song Long Road, he dedicated the night's performance to Mandela and "my brother, Chris."

What a magic way to raise awareness about this incredibly important cause.
