It's A Little Bit Funny

Every year, the UK loses its collective shit when department store John Lewis releases its Christmas advert (yeah, they're weird units), but this year might have topped the lot.

The focus is Sir Elton John, with the full-length two minute twenty second advert showing the Rocket Man's career in reverse, as lookalikes portray his many different styles as he plays 'Your Song' on the piano.

We won't give away the ending but watch it here. It's admittedly pretty epic:

Elton John pocketed a cool 5 million pounds (just under $9m Australian) for those seven seconds of screentime. Which is another reason - apart from them just really, really loving commercials for department stores, apparently - Poms are losing their shit over the ad. To be fair to Elton, he donated his fee to charity.

The ads have become such a 'thing', this years has already clocked up 8.5 million views (an Aussie dollar to Elton for each view). And it's also spawned a few parodies and pisstake responses, which show not all Poms are on board with the sentimentality. Here's fellow supermarket Lidl's funny as response:

And now fellow supermarket Waitrose has even taken the piss out of the advert, and the whole John Lewis thing in their own Christmas ad. #Adception

John Lewis have made a habit of delivering emotional, sentimental adverts at this time of year. If the above got you in the mood, check out Buster The Boxer, The Man In The Moon, or (let's be honest, the best one) Monty The Penguin
