Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Danny Kirwan has died at the age of 68.

Mick Fleetwood confirmed the news of Kirwan's passing on Friday on the band’s Facebook page:

Post

Fleetwood recruited Kirwan to the band in 1968 at the age of 18, after the release of the band’s second album Mr. Wonderful.

He went on to feature on their next five albums, Then Play On (1969), Blue Jam at Chess (1969), Kiln House (1970, the first album with Christine McVie), Future Games, (1971) and Bare Trees (1972).

Kirwan’s first released track with Fleetwood Mac was Albatross:

Kirwan was kicked out of the band during the tour to support Bare Trees due to his reported alcoholism.

He went on to record solo albums Second Chapter (1975), Midnight in San Juan (1976), Hello There Big Boy!, (1979) and Ram Jam City, which was released in 2000 but comprised of demo tracks for Second Chapter.

Kirwan was among the eight members of Fleetwood Mac — along with Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, John McVie, Christine McVie and Jeremy Spencer — who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Kirwan did not attend the induction ceremony.
