Jim Rodford, ex-bass player of The Kinks, The Zombies and founding member of Argent has passed away at 76.

Rodford died after a fall.

"It is with deep sadness that I learned this morning that my dear cousin and lifelong friend, Jim Rodford, died this morning after a fall on the stairs," Rod Argent wrote on The Zombies’ Facebook page.

"More details are not yet known about the exact cause of death."

Rodford founded the band Argent with his cousin Rod Argent, and played with them from 1969 until they disbanded in 1976.

He joined legendary rockers The Kinks in 1968, and stayed with them until they split up in 1996.

He played with the Zombies after they reformed in 2004 and played with until he died.

Rodford is survived by his wife Jean and two sons Russell (a guitarist) and Steve (who played drums in the reformed Zombies).
