The Melbourne music scene have had it tough this year, farewelling too many of our strong community.

This week Andy Portokallis, venue owner and live music supporter, aged 59 to cancer.

Triple M Melbourne’s The Hot Breakfast music correspondent James Young reflected on Andy and his impact on the Melbourne music scene on the show this morning.

Andy, known as the “King of Fitzroy” was behind popular music venues Pony, The Spanish Club, Yah Yahs, Bar Open, the Marquis of Lorne and most famously The Tote in Collingwood.

Andy will be farewelled in a public service this Tuesday 27th November, 3pm The Sherrin Stand, Victoria Park, Lulie Street, Abbotsford.
