Whilst in recent years the story of live music venues closing down seems to have become ever so common, Melbourne's just been gifted a new live music venue: Geddes Lane Ballroom!

Previously home to Showgirls Bar 20 and before that The Grainstore Tavern, Lorenz Grollo and Shannon Bennett have revamped the 170 year old venue.

30 years ago the venue hosted John Farnham's ‘Whispering Jack’ album launch, among many other live performances, including INXS and Daryl Braithwaite to name a few.

With a capacity of around 400, Melbourne Rockers Kingswood packed the house with a secret show on October 11th to launch the Ballroom. We went along to suss out the new venue!

It's safe to say it was a successful night, with a photo-wall upon entry, impressive bar snacks on offer, a variety of booze and Kingswood smashing out a solid set list to fans and industry personnel alike.
Geddes Lane Ballroom is both beautiful and intriguing, the saying "if these walls could talk" comes to mind when navigating around the venue. It's quite large whilst the bandroom itself provides an intimate setting for personalised gigs.

Kingswood took advantage of the old Showgirls runway, lead singer Fergus Linacre reminisced with the crowd;
"[the] last time we had a runway we were supporting Aerosmith, I was told not to take advantage of Steven Tyler's walkway! Now I have my own...", the crowd cheered. They proceeded to invite fans up on-stage to boogie with the band for a number of tracks, and mingled with the crowd after ending on their new single "Messed It Up".

Kingswood is currently off on their European Tour, before they come back Down Under for a few select shows.
