Data collection company Nielsen has posted its annual end of year report about the music industry today, with some interesting results in the rock category.

Nielsen went by total album sales and total equivalent album sales, which meant that each 10 track sales or 1500 track streams equalled one album.

Metallica was the most popular rock band for the year, just shading Imagine Dragons and the Beatles:

Imagine Dragons’ Evolve was by far the most popular rock album of the year, nearly doubling Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface.

Imagine Dragons also took out both of the top two spots for most popular songs:

Streaming services were impossible to avoid in 2017, up 58.7%:

Meanwhile total consumption went up 12.5:
