Australian music legend Molly Meldrum has spoken to Triple M about how he and the late Malcolm Young came up with the idea for the iconic Long Way To The Top music video.

The 1976 video involved putting the band on a slow moving flatbed truck on Swanston Street in the middle of Melbourne.

Speaking to Dangerous Dave after the news of Malcolm Young’s death broke, Molly said he was surprised the band went for it.

“Going right back to the Countdown days, because they were so close to Countdown, AC/DC, when we did that amazing film clip back then — video we call it now — where we came up with the idea of taking one of the trucks along Swanston Street at lunch time,” Molly said.

“[I thought] they won’t buy that.

“So I put it to Malcolm (Young) and he loved it, so away we went with that.

“It’s become the most famous film clip, the most played in the world every time.”
