New Study Finds Melbourne Is The Live Music Capital Of The World

The second live music census has revealed Melbourne is the live music capital of the world.

Not only does Melbourne have the best live music scene, it’s continuing to grow at a steady rate.

The stats released by Music Victoria today show that not only attendance of live music venues has increased, but live music has attracted more attendance than AFL, Spring Racing and Grand Prix combined.

Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said the Census results demonstrate the important role the music plays across the state.

“Music is part of our DNA in Victoria. Over the past two years we’ve been rolling out a range of programs that are strengthening our music scene at all levels, right across the state. Our live music venues, industry organisations and musicians are thriving – from grants enabling artists to tour and grow new markets to mentoring and professional development and helping live venues become more sustainable - our $22.2m Music Works initiative is producing real results."

These studies come just weeks after L.A based Tom Morello claimed Melbourne has a better rock scene than L.A after he was spotted gig hopping around Melbourne when touring Australia for Download Festival.
