Nick Cave has responded to a fan in an open letter, talking about the death of his son Arthur.

Arthur tragically passed away in 2015 after falling off a cliff in Brighton, England.

The letter was shared on Cave's website the Red Hand Files, which he uses to talk to fans.

The fan was asking about dealing with death, and whether Cave felt his son Arthur was communicating with him.

In his response, Cave said that without love, there is no grief, and vice versa.

"It seems to me, that if we love, we grieve. That’s the deal. That’s the pact. Grief and love are forever intertwined. Grief is the terrible reminder of the depths of our love and, like love, grief is non-negotiable."

He went on to say that he still feels Arthur's presence.

"I feel the presence of my son, all around, but he may not be there. I hear him talk to me, parent me, guide me, though he may not be there."
