We’d been waiting for what felt like forever for the Fooies to come back to Brisbane, and their barnstorming set at Suncorp Stadium made it all worthwhile.

A good crowd was in early for first band on the bill, locals DZ Deathrays — who we love and have been playing in Homegrown Sunday nights on Triple M — and they got the audience well and truly warmed up for Weezer’s first visit Aussie tour in 5 years.

They hugged it out with koalas at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary by day and warmed up the Foo Fighters fanatics waiting for their kings by night.

They also took the opportunity to drop the news that they’ll be doing their headline tour next year — what a treat!

As expected, Weezer put on a cracking show, with The Sweater Song and Hash Pipe bringing the house down, Rivers Cuomo rocking out in a sombrero for Beverley Hills, and of course the always awesome Buddy Holly.

The band bid adieu with a crowd singalong to the cruisey Island In The Sun, then strutted the runway into the middle of the stadium for a supermodel pose.

We’ll see you in 2019 Weezer, and please — add Dope Nose to the setlist for that tour.

With the entree out the way, it was time for the sweaty, hairy, hard-rockin main course — the Foo Fighters.

The house lights go down, Dave sprints up the runway ahead of the rest of the band and all of a sudden 50,000 Queenslanders are squealing like a birthday girl.

Dave set the tone for the night with his first address to the crowd: “Are you read for a long fucking night?”

That kicked off a killer video and light show, and one thing that you noticed straight away is that Taylor Hawkins still has the best chompers in the biz — you can see those pearly whites all the way to the Caxton!

The Foo Fighters kicked off with Run from the new album Concrete And Gold, before flying into classic All My Life. They were already drenched in sweat by this point — welcome to the sub tropics boys — and things only got hotter when they smashed through Learn To Fly and The Pretender.

Other highlights included Taylor’s drum kit get hoisted up on gigantic stilts during Rope, the massive sing along of My Hero, and the bloke behind me getting way into These Days and spilling beer down the back of the shirt I got for Christmas.

The bands lights were turned off before Break Out, with the stadium lit up with phones, and Dave threatened to keep playing until they got thrown in jail.

During the band introduction, Taylor showed off his best Aussie accent, before the boys decided to bring on the real thing — Wolfmother legend Andrew Stockdale came on in a Motorhead t-shirt to do Queen and Bowie’s Under Pressure with Taylor.

A life changing highlight for one bloke holding a sign begging to play a song came after that, with Dave pulling him up to do Monkey Wrench, which he ABSOLUTELY NAILED. Dave let him keep the pick he just used to melt Suncorp’s collective face, and he ain’t needing a Tinder account tonight.

For the encore, they did the Aussie-flavoured Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners, a cover of Blackbird by The Beatles, Times Like These, and of course the piece de resistance — Everlong.

They played for three hours and never stopped rocking, and if I had to pick a con, I’d say maybe too many tracks had extended jams in them — a first world problem I know.

Overall it’s a 9/10.

In Grohl we trust.
