Silverchair’s Ben Gillies is suing a gym after he suffered a serious injury while training, reports www.themusic.com.au

The drummer claims he injured his shoulder after doing a bench press while training with a personal trainer at Melbourne Health and Fitness. He says the trainer increased the weights despite him saying not to.

He claims he wasn’t able to drum for eight months because of the incident and was forced to cancel scheduled appearances on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Celebrity Apprentice.

"It is unlikely, given the nature of his injury, that [Gillies] will ever achieve pre-injury level of drumming skills to enable him to tour or return to his previous ability," read a statement.

"[Gillies] experiences severe pain and fatigue in his shoulder after drumming and, notwithstanding the deterioration in his skills, would not be able to undertake the gruelling demands a lengthy tour requires."

After Silverchair called it quits in 2011, Gillies went on to form a solo project called Bento. He's releasing a solo album later this year.
