As a special treat to celebrate the THIRTY YEARS since the release of the monster that was Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses, we've sifted through the archives and found a series of awesome grabs about Appetite from 5 years ago, when our very own Becko got to spend some time with the one and only, Slash.

They covered a whole bunch of stuff.

The Band's Formation And Appetite

Slash talks about the different incarnations of the band before they settled on the final line-up that would make Appetite For Destruction.

He also tries to explain why it touched such a nerve with the public at large.

"...it became so iconic, I think one of the reasons is the fact that it was talking about stuff that nobody really talked about at the time, it was delivered with an attitude that was so sincere that a lot of people really related to because we said things that people would have felt uncomfortable about saying but felt those same things..."

The Songs

Slash gives an insight into the song writing process and how they developed the songs that would become Appetite. He also reveals a couple of Gunners songs that DIDN'T make the Appetite album, but would appear later on the Use Your Illusion releases.

"The songs happened so quickly they almost wrote themselves, honestly... We'd be playing a new song in a club after only having worked on it for a couple of hours..."

The Sweet Child O' Mine Riff

Yep... THAT RIFF. One of the most iconic and loved riffs in modern music. Slash gives insight into how he came up with it and how it developed into Sweet Child...

"I just got the riff together and it became the catalyst for this whole song... it was a riff that I was just f*cking around with and the next thing you know, Izzy's playing chords behind it and Axl's writing lyrics..."

Appetite For Destruction was released to the world on July 21, 1987. To this day, it remains one of rock's finest debut albums.
