Following years of sitting in shelves at film production studios, the Freddie Mercury biopic is officially a go.

Mr. Robot and The Pacific star Rami Malek has signed on to play the frontman of Queen in the film directed by Brian Singer.

Along with confirmation of Singer and Malek’s involvement, it’s been revealed that the title of the biopic will be Bohemian Rhapsody.

The decision to sign Singer, best known for directing The Usual Suspects and the X-Men franchise, has been praised by surviving band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.

“This is a director with extraordinary imagination and style,” May and Taylor said in a statement on the band’s website.

“A perfect choice to recreate the fabulous Queen years which brought us such unforgettable moments as Live Aid, which we can reveal will be faithfully recreated for a key sequence the film.”

May and Taylor will serve as musical directors for the film, but there has been no announcement on who exactly will be cast to play their younger selves.

No release date has also been announced yet, but pre-production will commence as early as next week, with principal photography expected to start in London this September.
