Melburnians have always known that their city’s live scene is awesome, so it should come as no surprise to them, then, that Prophets Of Rage guitarist Tom Morello is also a massive fan.

The former Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave axeman was spotted checking out some of Melbourne’s most well-known bars on Friday night such as Cherry Bar, Fee Fee’s Bar and The Bendigo.

Speaking to Triple M ahead of Prophets’ performance at Download Festival on Saturday, Morello explained he was such a fan of Melbourne’s live scene that he rated it even higher than what Los Angeles and New York offered.

“I had a ball,” Morello said.

“Melbourne is one of my favourite cities in the world because ... I wish that we had rock bars in Los Angeles like they have (in Melbourne).

“There’s nothing like that in LA, there’s nothing like that in New York.

“It’s nice to be able to come to a place where there’s multiple bars on the same street where I can get behind the DJ table and play my Dio and my (Iron) Maiden and my (Black) Sabbath and my (Judas) Priest.”

But Morello was quick to defend his bandmates from the accusation that they too were “snooping” around Melbourne on Friday night.

“Don’t drag them into my world, I was the snooper,” Morello laughed.

“These guys were all at home reading a book. I was snooping around last night.”
